very large container of mojito

hi ladies,
ahh...new york is thick with the smell of weddings. and by that i mean- two of my co-workers are days away from getting married. ok more like one week, to two weeks, but it's starting to get hectic-as in they are starting to take lots of time off of work.
hmm....your std's are perfect- i fucking love them - they make me think you should be a fabulous graphic designer- or fancy greeting card designer- or that you should draw pictures all day long.
love the symbolism, didn't realize that guinea fowl mate for life- you guys probably have some running around don't you- ahhh... the life!
don't know if you're cruising the stylemepretty blog- but found some fun stuff from someone who had an outdoor wedding- really what caught my eye here were the paper lanterns and the very large container of mojitos- the drink thing seemed low maintenance and tasty.
your mom is awesome for mister miagi-ing your the greenery at your house.
anyways- hope you all are doing really well, i will have some serious reporting in the next couple of weeks- I'm even going to Jenny's wedding in Milwaukee- both Jenny and Juliette are losing some of the traditional wedding things- the bouquet toss, the garter belt, etc. should be really interesting- and fun.
xoxo- jess

Shoes and Guinea Fowl
#1. Your invites rock. Very nice. I showed them to my friend Kate and she loved them as well.
#2. Shoes. It will be a challenge for me to assist you in the shoe department, but as a bridal beotch I will do my best. I will research further. Right now all I can offer is my services to bedazzle some Crocs for you with hot glue.

hey ladiez...
hope ya'll are still checkin this or have figured out how to get it to email you when somebody posts something...
it's been a little sparse lately, eh? well, starting school for me definitely puts any type of wedding planning on the back burner. I have approx 420 students this year. not even kidding. you're all jealous aren't you? yes. life is crazy. yes, it's a good time so far.
fortunately, my mom is on sabbatical this year, allowing her lots of time to obsess over stuff like how the lawn is going to look when we have people come.... we just finished filling an area for her and they hydroseeder is coming Tuesday. nuts, huh? she's probably going to be pretty much living here next summer, and we'll be gardening our asses off. I'm psyched.
yep- so back to the only wedding thing I've done for the past oh, 3 weeks or so? STDs. (heh) Gotta show Devin, but I kinda like them, and we talked about doing guinea birds on our stuff. they're cool. and they mate for life. :) postcard style, front side, back side.

Also- I was just looking on the net at the only "wedding" related website I ever look at- the offbeat bride one- and looking at peoples' shoe picks, and I was realizing that this is an area I'm totally gonna need serious support on. Devin's sister in law had the best shoes at her wedding- they were like classy flip-flops, maybe had a little heel, but had different sparkly pretend rhinestone thingies all over the straps. not sure how/if that will go with my TBD dress.... but anyway... I know that one's comin', thought I should warn you.... :)
ps.
JK- I am drinking Arbor Mist. I thought of you. : )

Seattle
Hey Girls.
I met a woman on the boat the other day who was from Seattle. I asked her what would be fun for us to do and she told me about a spa called The Olympus. www.olympusspa.net Check it out. You can go there for the day for 35 bucks... extra for special stuff. Let's get pampered!

holy s. the internet can be a pain.
i love my mac, but sometimes I want to kick iWeb in the head.
anyway- this site should work at some point here: www.081509.info
what else. oh yeah!!!
we're gonna send STDs (heh) in the mail, but as you can probably tell, our website is password protected, so I just ordered a crapload of little scratch off stickers, so that people have to scratch off like it's a lottery ticket to see the username and password! HA! I'm way excited about scratch off stickers.

So, there be a boat for ya gals to stay aboard when you is here playing dress up for a few days. I will most likely NOT have a car, as I am hoping to sell it this September, so we will need to bike walk or ride zee bus to gets around. There might be light rail by then to/from the airport - wahoo! I am sooooo excited for you to visit! I think you ladiez should stay for longer than 3 days so we can get some other play time in.
BTW, amah-zing research you are doing...where do you find these things? Have y'all decided what the posse is wearing? What do you want me to wear as the officiant? Are you going to have/do you have colors?
Much love to all you b's - I am so frickin psyched, I love it when we get to all be together!

seattle or bust...
so I got an email back from Chrissy Wai-Ching. She basically said I can come to her studio whenever I want, and she will make me a dress and I can try stuff on.

I'm watching airfares to Seattle for the week of February 16th. Probably coming for 3 days -ish. Who's gonna put me up? You coming Ali?
ummmm yeah.
candy buffet? I was reading that you're supposed to estimate 1/4 to 1/2 pound of candy per person! holy hog-a-ma-jogs! candy fiends.
We've come up with some other ideas (that are probably pretty outlandish, but fun to think about anyway):
1) bubble tea fountain- like a slushie machine filled with bubble tea slushie then you add the bubble?! that would rock.
2) how feasible is it for all the glassholes to get their wonky drinking vessels to Maine for... well, drinking vessels? that would be cool.
can't think of anything else right now. too hungry. will keep ya'll posted on the Seattle thing.

mark your calendar.
Devin and I just checked out the iCal for 2009. We picked August 15, 2009.
My aunt said we should do "save the date" cards. (I am just enormously entertained by how people call them "STDs". heh.) Any creative ideas on how to do this? I guess we need to really get our guest list goin' on huh?

I'm currently thinking somewhere between the above meets Bilbo's 111th birthday:

late but in earnest!
(custom cake topper- ha-larious!)
1. Congratulations!
2. Your wedding is going to be so much fun, your friends and family are really good at partying down and guitar hero is a great idea- hopefully the Shepards can look the other way on that one.
3. LOVE the Seattle designer- I agree that they are gorgeous and so you.
4. I might've mentioned this before, but two of my co-workers are engaged (with Oct weddings) and they check this blog everyday- for ideas- colors- that kind of stuff www.stylemepretty.com (gotta love that cheeky name!)
it has a 'budget beautiful' section with lots of lilacs and a couple of pretty horses
http://www.stylemepretty.com/category/real-weddings/budget-beautiful/
5. What else...well miss ladybird mcsammie- i hope that your summer starts to settle down, and starts feeling like a vacation!
6. Hope to see you all very soon!

ok. here's the scoop.

1) I like this personal private message board thingy. I think it's great, and we should have been doing this anyway, all along.
2) I am just getting over being sicker than I've been for a good long while. and hopefully it will be a good long while before I get sick like that again. I hardly got out of bed all day on Friday, and I didn't check it, because I didn't know where the thermometer was, but I'm willing to bet my fever was 103-104 or so. I began to recover when Devin got home and put me in the cold bathtub. Sucky sucky suck. I felt like I was never going to get better and I was going to die. It was awful.
3) Then Devin and I got in a big fight, partly because I was getting over being sick, and still exhausted from not eating and super emotional from being so tired, and I freaked out on him. Then he freaked out back. Then we both kind of freaked out at the possibility I might be freaking out because I could be pregnant. (I'm not, don't worry). But then we talked and said sorry and made up.
4) so, all in all July has been a pretty stressful month for me. WTF? I'm supposed to be on summer vacation. (vacation being the key term). But between getting in wood, 200 bales of hay, trying to get our biodiesel processor going, Devin looking for a new job, me having a laser procedure done on my right leg, then both of us getting sick, it's been altogether more difficult than the school year! man!
5) So back to what we're supposed to be talking about.
Food: we will get catered. which will be difficult for us, especially Devin. Right now, we're thinking either pig roast with some veggy option, or indian buffet. My only reservation is the Indian place I'm considering has good food, but I always eat too much then feel like I have to lay down.
Cake. I found this online:
I frickin' LOVE Totoro. I also found a recipe for green tea flavored cake. I'm gonna try it out and maybe have somebody local do the cake.... (unless the Betty Crocker of Isle Au Haut wants to step up to the plate... :) ) Or maybe we'll do it, I have no idea. Also, Devin's family always makes a Devil's food cake with this special white frosting that was his grandmother's recipe for all get-togethers and special occasions, so I'm pretty sure we'll have one involved at some point. I always loved the whoopie pie thing you told me about your sister's wedding. I always though of Big G's whoopie pies, too, yum.
I'm seriously considering going to Seattle over my February break for a couple of days. We'll see how it goes.
The other thing I thought of recently was: Where the hell are people going to stay? Then I looked online on craigslist and stuff to find out how much people's camps rent for around here. It wouldn't be unreasonable to get a camp large enough for 10 for $1000-$1500 for a week. Which isn't too bad when you break it down! could be kinda fun. And of course anyone who wants to can camp in the yard, sleep in the hay loft, etc. :)
Oh yeah- Devin is also secretly way more traditional than I am. When I said I wanted to have Guitar Hero at the reception he was like "no way." I think he thinks his relatives, especially his dad's side, I think, will think it's stupid or something. So, in order to appease the Shepard side of the family, the schedule may get more complicated and instead of your usual:
"Ceremony, Reception/Meal Thing/Dancing/Whatever."
We may have to get expanded to include:
"Ceremony, Traditional Reception/Meal/Light Drinks/Croquet & Badminton, followed by Bad Ass Afterparty with Karaoke, Guitar Hero and General Good Times."
Don't know if the Shepards approve. Whatev. They can go home for that. *insert me rolling my eyes here- you all know what that looks like* And I know that the vast majority of the Sammons/Munroe Clan would be seriously bummed to miss out on the Bad Ass Afterparty.
I'll suck it up and act like a lady for Devin for his family for the afternoon, as long as I get to party with my peeps after. We can rock it both ways.
holy s. longest post ever. thanks chicas. love you!!! mwah. McS

Grub
When I think of weddings, I think of food. Have you thought of what you might do? Appetizers only, full meal, carnivore platters, vegatarian? If it's non-traditional, will you have a cake or some kind of other dessert. My sister had tiers of whoopie pies at their wedding which was pretty cool. Hey, what can I say, I like food. Gimme the scoop!

Sorry for the delay, I am here!
Jalo Ladiezzzzz,
#1 - CoNGRATuLATIONS on picking a date! I am really looking forward to your fun times wedding on the ME sanctuary. Are you going to try and find a role for all the animals in the ceremony?
#2 - YES, come to Seattle! ALL are welcome, I can definitely aid in lodging, transportation, and coordinating local shopping logistics. It will be just like in New Orleans - you in the dresses and us with cameras and jokes. When are you thinking about travellin west?
#3 - It is true, I am an ordained Reverend of the Universal Life Church. The first wedding I performed was in ME, and it turns out the state of ME likes my kind (we are not recognized by all states).
#4 - We are WAY overdue for a GG gathering, so I think this has perfect timing. Way to bring us together Cara! I'm sorry I have been a little m.i.a. I am back in the busy job trade again, and a far ways from computerland, so I will try to do better at keeping in touch.
So, I was just chatting with my beau, Leaven and told him about the four of us in college - Jessi, Jessie, Cara, and Kerr - and how people used to get us confused, or we got confused as to who they wanted, you know....he laughed as he realized that Cara loves Devin and Kerr loves Leaven (just to keep the momentum going). Funny side note.
Anyways, can't wait to chatty more. I am so excited! For visits, planning, weddings, joy on the upstate farm, etc. Yay!
Much love to you all ladies,
kerr

ok girlies, don't fail me now.....
as I sit here on this beautiful summer day... I realize how much it sucks that Devin gave me the cold/flu thing that he got from his friend Graham (JB you know him from winter.) at work, and I feel like poop.
so, a sedentary activity that I am partaking in is trying to figure out how I can collaborate with you bitches on the interweb in order to plan this wedding thing for me and Devin next summer. I think I sent you emails/invites or something to be "co-authors" to this blog, that way we can all post to it, and post pics, etc, and you can help me, because really let's be honest, I need help.
The reality is that I need to plan at least a couple things now because once school starts, I'm going to be crazy busy.
Here's what I know:
1) this whole thing will go down at our house
2) I don't want to wear a white dress (I found this designer who is in Seattle who's stuff kicks ass- www.wai-ching.com)
3) I don't want to spend gobs of $$, (hoping to keep to $5K or so) and I don't want my parents to pay for stuff if at all possible. (they do enough for me and Devin)
4) why doesn't the Grasshopper cater?
5) there will be an aluminum boat full of ice, beer, and wine.
6) dogs welcome.
7) I think Devin and I tried to do a guest list at some point last year, and it looked like around 100 people. (wtf? I didn't even know I knew that many people)
important things I don't know:
1) who the hell is going to marry us? (I heard that Kerr can do such things??? is this a false rumor? ;) )
2) ummm... well really, I don't know right now, I'm a little foggy in the head and I think it's naptime.
help me out chicas!!
miss and love,
<3>
